Wanderlust: Columbia Icefield, Alberta

Hiking the Columbia Icefield in Jasper National Park, Alberta, makes suffering through throngs of tourists at the Athabasca Glacier Centre worthwhile. Few people hike to the base of the glacier and only small, respectful groups tend to take the organized hiking tours. When barren rock, snow, and turquoise ice surround you at the top of the glacier, it feels like being transported to another world.
